'Ascension Tech' Exhibition at Harbourfront Centre
Ascension Tech
February 1-29th, 2020 Harbourfront Centre, Toronto, Ontario
“Ascension Tech” is a photo based exhibition that explores ancient ancestral teachings and pays homage to African history. By creating an afro-futurist world populated with compelling and unique characters, Adegbesan aims to showcase the power of embracing one’s own history, and shines a spotlight on ancient symbols and narratives that have been systematically altered and withheld from black communities. The characters in Adegbesan’s universe represent individuals who have channeled ancestral guidance, and a rich and abundant legacy in order to find the key to spiritual ascension. They are mobilized by their heritage and practices, and their sacred adornments serve as an essential technology which aids them in their ascension.
